Padel did not become a different sport in 2026, but several rule changes matter if you play organised tournaments or follow the professional game. The headline change is the Star Point, alongside clarified serving rules and tighter match procedures.
What is the Star Point?
The International Padel Federation introduced Star Point as a recognised scoring option for 2026. After two advantage cycles at deuce, a single deciding Star Point can settle the game. It is being used across Premier Padel, the CUPRA FIP Tour and other FIP circuits.
What changed on the serve?
The 2026 rules clarify that the ball may not cross the service line or its imaginary extension before it is struck. The server must also respect the required foot position behind the service line at contact.
Does every club have to use Star Point?
No. Recreational games and local tournaments can use the scoring format selected by the organiser. Always check the event rulebook before playing. For the fundamentals, read our basic padel rules guide.
Why this matters
Players increasingly move between social games, local competitions and formal events. Knowing the current rules prevents avoidable arguments and helps Indian tournaments align with the international game.
